Thinking Portable Tramp Oil Separator?
By removing tramp oil and aerating the coolant
at high flow rate, Keller separators eliminate the source of shop odor and
extend the life of cutting tools and coolant. A Keller portable
separator can clean a sump in a few hours and then may be moved to another
sump and set up in minutes. One Keller portable separator can keep 10
or more sumps clean. The separators can be run while the machine tool
is operating or when shut down. Keller separators are shipped by UPS
and ready to run, requiring only connection to a 1/4" compressed air line.
There are no electricals. Thousands of Keller separators are in
service.
How the Keller TKO Separators work:
Each separator is supplied with compact inlet devices which can access the
surface of any sump through an opening as small as 3" diameter. The
oily coolant is pulled from the sump surface through a solids filter, a high
capacity bag filter, which will significantly reduce the concentration of
suspended solids in the sump when machining aluminum, plastics, or other
light weight materials. The air-operated diaphragm pump has a suction
lift of 15 feet and can be run dry or dead-ended without damage. The
filtered coolant then flows through Keller permanent plastic oil separated
elements immersed in a plastic tank. The coalescing separator elements
cause the oil drops to form a layer that rises to the top of the separator
tank. The cleaned coolant exits continuously via an overflow port and
returns to the sump. The oil layer collected in the separator tank can
be drained into a waste oil container by opening the oil outlet valve
occasionally, usually once per day. No other operator attention is
required.

A Keller portable separator is used to clean several
sumps in sequence. Keller recommends that each sump be cleaned at
least once per week. For example, the model #315 cleans a 100 gallon
sump with heavy oil loading in 4 hours, or two sumps per day and 10 sumps
per week.

Inlet devices:
The inlet devices are designed to draw in oily coolant from the surface
of the sump while avoiding the intake of air, which can interfere with
splitting oil from coolant in the separator. One inlet device is
used in each sump. The #555-05 Floating Inlet Device is most
frequently used, because it automatically compensates for changes in the
level of coolant in the sump over a range of about 4 inches. The
#555-06 Fixed Inlet Device, which requires only a 3-inch diameter hole
for access to the sump, is used where limited access prevents the use of
the #555-05. The #555-09 Large Floating Inlet Device is used where
the liquid level in the sump varies more than 4 inches, and in large
sumps or tanks where the liquid level is well below the tip lip of the
sump, so that it is impractical to use either of the clamp-mounted inlet
devices. The #555-09 may be used in pit-type sumps with liquid
levels as much as 15 feet below floor level.
